These musical visionaries rescued the unreleased Aquarium Rescue Unit album The Calling from undeserved obscurity, and also put out two volumes of Blues From Mars by guitarist Barry Richman. While the erratic behavior of INIO President Paul Kelly and his trusty Illegal Counsel David Wyatt once caused Hunter S. Thompson to call them "loose cannons on the deck of the Titanic," their discerning taste in music outweighs any minor personality quirks Their latest offering comes from Austin, Texas-based horn legend Tomas Ramirez. If you've heard the Blues From Mars discs, you've heard Tomas at work, and he has worked with everyone from Eric Johnson to Jerry Jeff Walker. Even if you're familiar with Tomas' playing, if you haven't heard his solo work, it's hard to put into words what a unique and powerful musical voice Ramirez has. Maybe that's why his new CD is called Sin Palabras, Spanish for "without words." This collection of instrumental tunes is firmly grounded in the jazz world, but has occasional detours into blues, rock, and Zambified freakouts. Mostly it's just good music from one of the most underrated sax players in America, accompanied by some of the hottest players in Atlanta, or for that matter, the galaxy.
