Review of Sean O'Rourke's "Primal Colors" by Travelin Tracy
I am sure I should be telling him this privately... but what the hell..were family on this list.
I am embarrassed to say how long it took after I received my cd in the mail to listen to it, but I must say first, everyone here must BUY Sean's new CD! You can even paypal the money... http://www.seanorourke.com/home.html
I initially bought it to support the cause, and didn't even care if I enjoyed it... (no offense) once I finally got it in my CD player.. it hasnt come out...
1st thing....The artwork is great! Sean.. another TALENT!
I am also a loser and the first track I went to is #9.. (#9 #9 .. in your best Beatles revolution voice) cause it was a track with Jimmy and Oteil) Sorry
Then (again out of order) I went to track 11 (one of my favorite songs on the cd, besides cause it was the title song... then I said to myself...
Sean is like me.. I am pretty sure. (in this sense) The 2 things I loved about Vinyl the most was A) the album art... and B) how the A side and the B side truly told story's... (side note) I have missed that in CD's.. which is why ARU cd's (when the dahls showed me the light in 92) were as much fun as the live show cause there was still the story being told... but I digress...
Anyway, everyone on this list MUST buy this CD...
Track 1 does set the tone.... Actually when you look at the track titles and see #3, your like, "yeah right, a song called grind????.. what is this a sex tape??" But its fabulous! Seans drummin in Afrikindian reminds me of Baba Tunde.... Tom Young is a great bass player.. where is he from? Also what does a Fuzz Bass look like? Love Barry!
Another thing I love is how there are some tracks which are maybe 45 seconds max... then you finally read the liner notes... and Sean talks about the fact that this is an "adventure into what goes thru his head",,, we all have things that work for a minute, and then you must move on...
Track 6, called The Arrival, turns out to be one I always restart and listen to again and again.... I have a question about the # side note on that one....
Track 7, the City, (no offense annoys me.. cause of all the clutter, but I think I have heard Charles Marshall before... and that makes it worth it... If its the same person I am thinking of... I first heard him in the late 80's in Albany New York... Sean, is it the same guy?
I love Enkoro.... even tho I want it to go on more than 38 seconds, but you cant complain, cause that's what goes into track #9 ( the first one I listened to with jimmy and oteil)
Woman cracks me up cause Sean has these vocals that make you laugh (smart move to have the passionate moment with your wife 4 or 5 tracks before this one) heh
Not THE BEST, but still an amazingly smart move, was the last song on the disc.. Reprise.... I have my own thoughts about this, which not that I am shy, I will tell Sean about privately so as not to ruin it for you all.... The one thing I will say is that this should not be the last you have heard..
I would love for Sean to mess around with Fareed haque... (www.fareed.com)
This CD will evoke a lot of thought, as well as smiles... I cant recommend it enough. http://www.seanorourke.com/home.html
